Character in an early (1891) short story by W. B. Yeats. A Fomorian giant abandoned by his comrades in Sligo, Dhoya marries a fairy bride but loses her to her fairy husband in a chess game. Although essentially a dream vision of the author, Dhoya may draw elements from the story of Eochaid Airem and Étaín; see TOCHMARC ÉTAÍNE [The Wooing of Étaín]. The name Dhoya may have been borrowed from Pool Dyoya, the deepest part of Sligo Bay.
