Die grinder

Wikipedia: Die grinder
An electric die grinder

A die grinder is a handheld power tool used to grind material, such as metal, plastic, or wood. They are either electrically or pneumatic powered and most have multiple speed setting; the most powerful can exceed 30,000 RPM. The cutting is done with a burr, bonded abrasive, or coated abrasive. The cutter is usually held in a collet to allow for quick changes in cutters.[1][2]

They are commonly used for engraving, porting cylinder heads, and general shaping of part.[2] The name comes from their use in touching up hardened steel dies.[citation needed]

Safety

Most die grinder throttles feature a spring-loaded "kickstand" mechanism between the throttle lever and the body of the grinder. This prevents the throttle from opening (being pressed down towards the body of the grinder) without operator intervention and inhibits accidental activation.
