Die Jahreszeiten

German Literature Companion: Die Jahreszeiten

Jahreszeiten, Die, an oratorio composed by J. Haydn, and first performed in Vienna in 1801. The libretto by G. van Swieten took its starting-point from James Thomson's poem The Seasons (1730), but the adaptation is so free that the original is no longer recognizable.
