German Literature Companion: Die Schaaf-Schur, eine pfälzische Idylle

Schaaf-Schur, eine pfälzische Idylle, Die, a short work in prose and verse published by F. Müller in 1775. His name is given on the title-page as Mahler Müller. The verse passages are intended to be sung. It is a rustic idyll. Farmer Walter and his family are busy sheep-shearing. They sing to pass the time, and the schoolmaster criticizes their literary taste. Walter's daughter and the young peasant Veitel, who is to leave next day, are in love. Their love is revealed to Walter, who approves it and invites Veitel to stay.
