Service offered by direct access brokers, that uses complicated computer software to enable clients to trade directly with exchanges or other buyers and sellers through electronic communications networks (ECN) at reduced commission rates. Using direct access trading systems (DATS), active traders, such as Day Traders enjoy speedy order execution by eliminating the third party, and receive other services, such as Level II Nasdaq quotes, interactive charts, and other real-time information. Direct access is provided by Charles Schwab, Ameritrade, and others.
