Plot

A sexy woman discovers just how hard it can be to find a worthwhile man in this outrageous romantic comedy. Rebecca (Jenny McCarthy) is a beautiful blonde who thinks she has it made with her hunky boyfriend, Richard (Victor Webster); however, when she comes home early one day and finds him in bed with another woman, she realizes that isn't quite the case. Devastated, Rebecca takes the advice of her friends Carrie (Kam Heskin), a half-bright actress, and Michelle (Carmen Electra), a racially confused beautician, and throws herself back into the dating game to prove to Richard that she can do better. However, there's a problem -- Rebecca is a bit of a klutz, she keeps ending up with men who are either crazy or strange, and each date she goes on ends in disaster. Does Rebecca have any chance at either finding new love or winning Richard back? And is it possible her pal John (Eddie Kaye Thomas) might be interested in being more than just friends? Dirty Love was written by leading lady Jenny McCarthy and directed by John Asher, McCarthy's then-husband. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Dirty Love is a 2005 comedy film, written by and starring Jenny McCarthy and directed by John Mallory Asher. At the time of filming the couple were married but have since filed for divorce. The film heavily plays off McCarthy's reputation for scatological comedy.

Plot

Rebecca (Jenny McCarthy), a struggling photographer, finds her model boyfriend Richard (Victor Webster) in bed with another woman. He also destroys all of her camera equipment. She is distressed by this and falls apart, alternating between wishing to get revenge on him, make him jealous, or just abandon hope of love and become sexually promiscuous.

Her best friends, Michelle (Carmen Electra), a hip body waxer, and Carrie (Kam Heskin), an airheaded actress, try to set her up on dates. These include one with a freakish magician (Guillermo Díaz) and another with a man who gives her ecstasy and has a fetish for fish. She attempts to make Richard jealous by taking a director, who is reminiscent of Woody Allen, to a runway show; he ends up vomiting on her breasts in front of everyone.

Ultimately Rebecca realizes she should focus her energy on being with someone who truly loves her, and that turns out to be John (Eddie Kaye Thomas), her nerdy but caring best male friend who has been supportive of her through the entire ordeal.

The film features Sum 41 as a guest artist, and they perform "No Reason", the main song on the soundtrack. Deryck Whibley and Steve Jocz appear in supporting roles, and Kathy Griffin has a cameo as a fortune teller.

Reaction

The movie was a flop critically and reviews were mostly unfavorable. Film critic Roger Ebert gave the movie a rare "zero star" rating and claimed it to be the third worst movie of 2005. In his written review of the film, he stated, "Here is a film so pitiful, it doesn't rise to the level of badness. It is hopelessly incompetent."[1]

Awards

Dirty Love has won four Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies): Worst Picture; Worst Director (John Asher); Worst Actress (Jenny McCarthy), and Worst Screenplay (written by McCarthy). It was also nominated for Worst Supporting Actress (Carmen Electra) and Worst Screen Couple, (Jenny McCarthy "& ANYONE Dumb Enough to Befriend or Date Her").[2]
