Discoglossidae is a family of primitive frogs, with the common name Disc-Tongued Frogs[2]. They are native to Europe and North-West Africa.
The family contains two genera, Alytes and Discoglossus. The former are somewhat toad-like and can often be found on land. The latter is smoother and more frog-like, preferring the water.[3] All of the species have pond-dwelling tadpoles.
The genera Bombina and Barbourula also used to be under this family but have now been moved to the Bombinatoridae.
