Fairy Tale Companion:

Disney comics

Disney comics have been greatly influenced by the animated cartoon film Snow White which first appeared in 1937. Fairy tales occur frequently in these comics, and the illustrations are very similar to those which appeared in the film. Disney comics are now available in many countries.

Disney and Me, currently available in Great Britain, is a nursery comic which is issued fortnightly. Fairy tales are almost always included. ‘Cinderella’, ‘Aladdin’, ‘Peter Pan’, and ‘Pegasus and Hercules’ have all appeared recently in picture stories. The illustrations are tastefully coloured, pleasant, and non‐threatening. Even villains such as Captain Hook are not particularly frightening. The stories often include friendly birds and harmless animals such as rabbits, fawns, and chipmunks.
