Since its launch, Disney Interactive has released over 75 computer and video game titles. The scope of the company's interactive releases has stretched beyond pure entertainment, covering areas like learning (Disney's MathQuest with Aladdin) and creativity (Disney's Magic Artist). Disney Interactive has also been responsible for the creation of such popular education-based product lines as Disney's Animated StoryBook, Disney's Activity Center and Disney's Print Studio.

Disney Interactive produces its CD-ROM games internally but has used outside companies to develop Disney titles for platforms like the Sony PlayStation and Nintendo 64 consoles. The company has established multi-year alliances with Sony Computer Entertainment, Nintendo of America, Virgin Interactive and Activision. These deals have enabled Disney Interactive to release complete portfolios of its products on all major video game platforms. Disney Interactive has worked with these companies to develop video game versions of popular Disney films like The Lion King, Aladdin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pocahontas, Toy Story Tarzan, A Bug's Life and The Lion King II -- Simba's Pride.

In 1996, Disney Interactive took the position as the number three publisher of children's educational software with the success of such titles as the Disney's Animated Storybook: 101 Dalmations and the Disney's Activity Center: Toy Story. By 1997, the company had established a worldwide workforce of four hundred employees.

In 1999, Disney Interactive reached a multiyear agreement with Canadian publisher, NewKidCo International for the rights to develop and publish game titles that feature Disney properties for the PlayStation, Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Color consoles. NewKidCo has proceeded to publish Disney's Story Studio: Mulan (1999) and Winnie the Pooh: Adventures in the 100 Acre Wood (2000).

In November 1999, Disney Interactive released a CD-ROM version of the highly rated ABC television game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire. After only four weeks of release, the company had shipped one million units of the game.

On February 22, 2000, Disney Interactive announced that it had teamed up with Japanese developer, Square Co. Ltd. to create its first game for the PlayStation 2 console. When it is released, the game will mark the first time that any Disney character has been featured in full 3D. The development team is being headed by renowned Square character designer and director Tetsuya Nomura (Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII). The game is scheduled to be released in Japan in late 2001 and in North America and Europe in 2002.

Disney Interactive has established offices in Europe and the Pacific Rim which encompass marketing, country-by-country localization as well as customer support for all interactive entertainment products. The company is headquartered on the Walt Disney Studios lot located in Burbank, California. Disney Interactive is headed by President Jan Smith and Senior Vice President Steve Finney.
