Dispur
pronunciation (help·info) (Assamese: দিছপুৰ) is the capital of Assam, a state in northeast India.
This place that existed as a locality on the outskirts of Guwahati, took its place as the capital of Assam in 1973. This was after Shillong, the erstwhile capital became the capital of the state of Meghalaya that was carved out of Assam.
To the south of Dispur is the mythologically important site of Basistha Ashram and the Shankardev Kalakschetra, a cultural center created in the 1990s. Next to Dispur is the ancient township of Jatia. The Assam State Secretariat Buildings are also located here.
Dispur is part of Gauhati (Lok Sabha constituency).[1]
