Geography Dictionary:

dissipative beach

A wide, very gently sloping beach, running from the seaward edge of the fore zone to the surf zone, which may exhibit bars or breaker zones. Beach cusps are commonly present. This beach type evolves where incoming waves break before reaching the beach face, thus losing most of their energy.
