Laos is divided into 16 provinces (Lao ແຂວງ, khoueng), 1 municipality (ນະຄອນຫລວງ, kampheng nakhon), and 1 special zone (ເຂດພິເສດ, khetphiset). Each province is subdivided into districts (muang) and then subdivided into villages (baan).
