Biography

The Atlanta six-piece Disturbing tha Peace was formed by Shawnna, Lil' Fate, Tity Boi, I-20, and Jay Cee. Protégés of Ludacris, whose pair of multi-platinum albums resulted in a label deal for the group, they released their debut, Golden Grain, on Def Jam South in early 2003. A self-titled album followed two years later. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

History

The label was founded when Ludacris failed to get a record deal. Ludacris rose to fame after the release of his major-label debut Back For The First Time which debuted on the Def Jam Recordings record label.

Disturbing Tha Peace released a compilation Golden Grain in 2002 in which it featured Shawnna, I-20, Tity Boi, Lil Fate, DJ Jay Cee also known as DJ JHB, and Ludacris himself on the album.

In 2003, the label became home to St. Louis rapper Chingy who released Jackpot on the label. After a dispute over royalties, Chingy abruptly left the label. Since then, Disturbing tha Peace has signed R&B singer Bobby Valentino, Field Mob, Shareefa, Playaz Circle, Norfclk, Willy Northpole and rock group Lazyeye to the label. Most of the artists on Disturbing tha Peace are distributed through Def Jam. Capitol Records has also distributed Chingy's and I-20's albums and Koch Records has distributed I-20 as well. Def Jam Records is distributing the Playaz Circle release, and Field Mob are a part of Geffen Records.

Chingy recently returned to DTP, but he was dropped because of lackluster sales of his fourth album.

DTP has officially signed an exclusive distribution deal with Island Def Jam.

Rudy Currence was signed with DTP in april 2009 as their new R&B Singer.[1] Also Lil Scrappy recently left BME Recordings and signed onto Ludacris's label Disturbing tha Peace. Ludacris welcomed Lil Scrappy to his Disturbing Tha Peace family during a concert show by Young Jeezy were Ludacris and T.I. were special guests. Ludacris brought out Lil Scrappy and revealed to the crowd that his newest signee's deal had been inked a week before. Ludacris confirmed the signing of Lil Scrappy During the concert show when he announced:

"Lil Scrappy has joined the DTP family. And Scrappy won't be alone; he'll be bringing his own artists."

—Ludacris, MTV News[2]

Also Jeff Dixon, co-CEO of DTP, said:

"he and his family hope to make Scrappy into the next Luda — meaning he'll be successful artistically and business-wise. We're just excited to sign him because he's been in the game for a long time and he never got the shot he needed to get," Dixon said. "He has exciting music. ... He brings another dynamic to our label. We're adding another dimension."

—Jeff Dixon, MTV News[3]
