Disuq (Arabic: دسوق) is a small city which is located 80 km south east of Alexandria. It belongs to Kafr ash Shaykh Governorate.
The City of Disuq was named in honour of Saint Ibrahim Quraish El-Dessouki (7th century), his tomb is located in the great mosque in the centre of Disuq. His descendants live in Alexandria and Cairo, and many live in the UK and US.
Disuq was the capital of Hyksos, the raiders who came to Egypt from Palestine in the Pharaohs era. It was called Puto. Ahmose fought on the Hyksos tribes. Then they were kicked out of Egypt.
Disuq lies on the Nile, where there are only two bridges to enter the city. Many important Egyptians hail from Disuq: Youssef El-Mansy, Ahmed Zeweil, Mohammed Roshdy, Yaser Hassan El Kosair, Ahmed Ibrahim El-Nagar, Evelyn Ashamallah, and Abdel-Salam Mohammed Nasar, a famous politician in the city.
