Two north coast par-72 courses are ranked among the finest on the island:
Playa Grande Golf Course (Km 9 Carretera Río San Juan-Cabrera, ☎ 809-582-0860, fax 809-582-9884), near Río San Juan, has been called the “Pebble Beach of the Caribbean,” with 10 of its 18 holes bordering the ocean atop dramatic cliffs. Robert Trent Jones was design consultant. Make reservations in winter, but as of 2008, it will be closed to the public. Greens fees US $67 for 18 holes, caddy US $7, cart US $23.
Playa Dorada Golf Course (☎ 809-320-3472, reservations@playadoradagolf.com) was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and surrounds the Playa Dorada resort complex. Greens fees US $40-$75 for 18 holes, caddy US $13, cart US $20.
