Donald Alan Heinrich (September 19, 1930 – February 29, 1992) was an American football quarterback in the National Football League. He played college football at the University of Washington, and also played professionally in the American Football League for the Oakland Raiders in 1962.

Playing career

Heinrich was the quarterback at Washington from 1949 to 1952, leading the nation in passing in 1950 and 1952[1] and setting many of the school's passing records. He was drafted in the 1952 NFL Draft and would play with the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. He was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1960 NFL Expansion Draft.

In his five seasons with the Giants, he saw action in three NFL championship games.

Coaching career

He later held coaching positions with the Cowboys, the Giants, the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Rams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Francisco 49ers.

Broadcasting career

In 1976, Heinrich began his broadcasting career, working first on University of Washington Huskies games and also as the first radio game analyst for the Seattle Seahawks Radio Network (working with Pete Gross and Wayne Cody) and then becoming an analyst for the 49ers' games.

Heinrich was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1987.
