Biography
Guitarist, songwriter, and lead singer Alex Radeff formed the first incarnation of the Canadian rock group Donkey in 1993. Other members have come and gone, including drummer Jim Clark, bassist Abbu Agard, keyboardist Craig Belanger, and bassist Peter Skelton. The band released three albums during the '90s. Two of its most popular songs from those albums are "Wartime" and "Falling Into You."Donkey recorded and independently released its first album, Legwork, in 1993. A couple of the tunes from that debut were impressive enough that the "powers that be" from Polygram Records included them in a compilation album filled with work by Canadian artists. In between touring, Donkey made a few music videos that found some airtime on MuchMusic. In 1995, the group went back into the studio to complete a sophomore offering, Heavy Light Ears. If Donkey could have afforded to make a few more videos to get its music in front of the television generation, things might have really skyrocketed for the band. Since there was no money for such luxuries, Radeff dropped down to a three-piece group with Clark and Belanger, and went back to touring.
For 1998, a third album was finished, Kickback. By 2000, Donkey had made a deal for national distribution of its music, and was hard at work on its next album. ~ Charlotte Dillon, All Music Guide
