Biography
Scottish singer/songwriter Dot Allison first made a name for herself with One Dove, an early-'90s group that blended dance and dream-pop elements on their first and only album, 1993's Morning Dove White. After One Dove disbanded in the mid-'90s, Allison disappeared from pop music until 1999, when a string of singles, concert appearances, and collaborations with artists like Arab Strap and Death in Vegas heralded her debut full-length, Afterglow. We Are Science followed in 2002, owing a dreamier sound to a superstar lineup of producers. During the next few years, Allison kept busy touring with Massive Attack, recording and performing with Pete Doherty and working on songs for her next album. Completed in October 2006, it took the singer almost a year to sign to a label (Cooking Vinyl) and get the finished product, the folkier Exaltation of Larks, out on the shelves. Her 2009 album, Room 7 ½, featured some help from Paul Weller and Pete Doherty. ~ Heather Phares & Marisa Brown, All Music Guide
Allison released her debut album, Afterglow, in 1999 to generally positive reviews. A song-oriented pop outing, it was followed by the electro and house music inspired We Are Science in 2002. In 2007, she released the folk and psychedelica influenced Exaltation of Larks. Allison's touring group includes members of The Fall, Two Lone Swordsmen, Tindersticks, Death in Vegas, Massive Attack, and Tokyo Windbag. Stylistically, her music has been described as "trip-pop," and owes a great deal to British electronic music of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Allison is scheduled to release a new album, titled Room Seven And A Half, in September 2009. It features a guest appearance by Pete Doherty on the songs 'I Wanna Break Your Heart' and 'Portrait Of The Sun', which he co-wrote. Paul Weller also appears on 'Love's Got Me Crazy'.
Dot will also be appearing on various movie and television soundtracks in 2009. She contributed vocals to the track "Without Discord" on the soundtrack to the Channel 4 series Henry 8th: The Mind of a Tyrant, written by Philip Sheppard. Additionally, Allison has recorded the score to a new horror genre film entitled "Triangle". A collection of past collaborations and rarities is also in the works.
