A sexually transmitted trypanosomiasis of horses caused by Trypanosoma equiperdum, characterized by inflammation of the external genitalia, edema of the ventral abdominal wall, muscle weakness and incoordination. Severe loss of condition may be followed by emaciation to the point where euthanasia is necessary. Urticaria-like plaques called dollar spots occur on the skin in some forms of the disease.
