Biography

An indie rock band from Spain, Dover was formed in 1992, making their debut with the release of Sister in 1995. Soon, they signed with local independent label Subterfuge Records, participating in a compilation called Stereoparty 2 with the song "Loli Jackson," and issuing an album based on stories about angels, demons, and biblical references called Devil Came to Me on April 27, 1997. That same year, the post-grunge foursome achieved an Ondas award for Revelation of the Year. After founding their own label, Loli Jackson Records, Dover recorded Late at Night, produced in the U.S. by Barrett Jones and released in association with Chrysalis on June 28, 1999. ~ Drago Bonacich, All Music Guide

Band history

Dover originated in the outskirts of Madrid at the beginning of the 1990s when the Llanos sisters decided to form a rock band encouraged by the alternative scene from Seattle. In 1994, the drummer Jesús Antúnez and the bass guitarist Álvaro Díez joined in. One of the band's demo tapes reached the radio program Disco Grande on RNE Radio 3. The band then entered into a one-year contract with the small independent record label Everlasting-Caroline. Their debut album Sister in 1995 lacked promotion and sold poorly; however, the Spanish fanzine Mondo Sonoro included it among the 10 best national albums of the year.

After their initial contract expired, they signed for the independent label Subterfuge Records, which produced their second album Devil Came to Me. This album turned out to be an unprecedented success in the Spanish independent scene. A fragment from the title song was included in a popular Radical Fruit Company television commercial and the band got launched to national fame. While promoting this album, the bass guitarist was replaced by Álvaro Díez, who had already been part of the band at its beginning. The album sold over 500,000 copies and gained them fans abroad in Europe and the Americas.

Their relationship with Subterfuge Records deteriorated and they signed with Chrysalis Records. In 1998, the band created their own label Loli Jackson Records. The next year they recorded their third album Late At Night in Seattle.

In 2000, they received the MTV Europe Best Spanish Artist award. In 2001, Chrysalis re-released their first album Sister including a previously unreleased song - Noche tras noche - as a bonus track. In September that year, after tense recording sessions in Los Angeles marked by disagreements with their album producer Barret Jones, the band released their fourth album I Was Dead For 7 Weeks In The City Of Angels.

2003 saw the release of their fifth album The Flame, recorded in Spain and produced by Rick Will.

In 2006 Dover released Follow the City Lights. Recorded at PKO Studios and self-produced with Daniel Alcover, the album was preceded by the single "Let Me Out".

In 2007, The single "Do Ya" features in the video game FIFA 08. In December, they rereleased their debut album in the United Kingdom as 2. Its lead single, "Soldier" was released in Spain on the 2nd of December, and was scheduled to be released in the UK sometime within the new year. Dover's work was subsequently released for download among major music distributors in the UK.

In early 2009, Dover has now signed up with Sony. Sony Music Entertainment Spain president Carlos López says the signing of Dover should not be a surprise. "Dover is one of Spain's most important groups from the '90s and in this decade," he comments. "They have sold 125,000 albums in the last year alone, and have a lot to offer in the future. They are dedicated to music, and still rehearse every day".

López said he expects Dover's first Sony release to be in January or February 2010.
