downconvert

To convert one set of values to a lower set of values. For example, converting a 1080i movie to an HDTV set that has only a 768-line resolution, or converting 480p content to 480i so that it can display on a legacy TV set. Also called "downscale," downconverting is a downsampling operation. Contrast with upconvert. See downsample.
