downwearing

Geography Dictionary: downwearing

declining slope retreat

A model of hillslope retreat where the slope angle decreases over time due to a combination of soil creep, rain splash, and sheet wash which causes slope convexities and concavities at the expense of straight hillslope segments. It is now generally accepted that no single model of slope evolution can explain all the features of hillslopes.
