Plot

International martial arts superstar Jackie Chan directed and choreographed (along with veterans Corey Yuen and Fung Hark-on) this action-packed follow-up to The Young Master. Chan also stars as Dragon, a rebellious young man who is always getting into trouble along with his best friend, Cowboy (Feng Sing). The friends soon meet Tiger (Michael Chan), a desperate man in hiding from the Chinese Imperial Guardsmen who conspired with him to steal a number of priceless artifacts from the Forbidden City. Tiger's fellow guardsmen were intending to sell the treasures to foreign interests and divide the money, but Tiger left before the transaction could be completed. What neither Tiger nor Cowboy knows is that the Captain of the Guards (Whang Ing-sik) is working in collaboration with the latter's corrupt father to pull off the illicit deal. Tiger goes back and purloins some of the artifacts, escaping with the guards in hot pursuit, as they need a complete collection to maintain their agreement with the buyers. Dragon and Cowboy remain blissfully unaware of the situation and give Tiger a place to seek shelter, only to face the wrath of the Captain and his men when their hiding place is discovered. Stand-out sequences include the final battle between Dragon and the Captain inside a large barn and a scene in which the precariously perched Dragon tries to keep from falling off a steep roof as the guards stick sharp spears through it from below. Dragon Lord also inaugurated Chan's practice of including clips of misfired stunts and injuries at the end of his films. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

Biography

Guitarist Eric Peterson was a founding member of '80s thrashers Testament, and remained with the group as it continued recording through the '90s. However, he also became curious about the extreme black metal sounds coming from Europe and, especially, Norway; so, during the late '90s, he began working on material in that vein with keyboardist Lyle Livingston and Testament bassist Steve DiGiorgio, who had previously honed his chops on the Florida death metal scene with top outfits like Death. Former Sadus drummer Jon Allen joined the project, and new Testament touring guitarist Steve Smyth was also recruited, while Peterson made his first forays into singing lead. The result was Dragonlord, a band that combined Peterson's heavy thrash riffery with the ornate, gothic feel of modern black metal bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth, plus nods to black metal originators like Venom and Mercyful Fate. Dragonlord was also a band that remained a side project for Peterson, not a primary concern ahead of his continued work with Testament. The debut Dragonlord album, Rapture, was released in summer 2001 by Spitfire, the same label that carried Testament. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

Dragon Lord (traditional Chinese: 龍少爺) is a 1982 Hong Kong martial arts film directed by and starring Jackie Chan. It was originally supposed to be a sequel to The Young Master and even had the name Young Master in Love until it was changed to Dragon Lord. In the film, Chan's character tries to send a love note to his girlfriend via a kite but the kite gets away and as he tries to get it back, he finds himself inside the headquarters of a gang of thieves who are planning to steal artifacts from China.

Reception

Box office

In its original Hong Kong theatrical run, Dragon Lord grossed HK $17,936,344.[1] The film did not make as much as it was expected to in Hong Kong but was a big hit in Japan. [2].

Awards and nominations

This is the first Jackie Chan film that includes outtakes (bloopers), which was inspired by Jackie Chan from "The Cannonball Run". His later movies will also include outtakes.

Production

One of Chan's complex scenes involved a badminton game requiring over 2900 takes for a single shot.[3] The film went over budget and took twice as long to shoot as was originally planned due to Chan's many retakes of shots to get them exactly as he wanted them. [4] The opening bun festival scene was originally intended to end the film but was moved as Chan wanted a spectacular opening to the film. [5]
