Dramaturgie, (1) an essay or treatise on the laws of drama. The classic example is Lessing's Hamburgische Dramaturgie, a collection of essays and commentaries on dramatic theory and different types of drama; to this might be added the Dramaturgie des Schauspiels (4 vols.) by H. Bulthaupt.(2) The theory and practice of the work of the Dramaturg or dramatic adviser. He either performs the functions of a director or producer, or acts as a resident consultant.
