1. General term for all finishes, mouldings, ornaments, dressed stones, and the like (often projecting) around an aperture such as a door or window, and distinguished from the rest of the plain surface of the naked of a wall.

2. Dressed stone: a façade of brick with stone dressings has most of the wall-surface (naked) of brick, but quoins, architraves, and the like are of dressed stone.
