Biography

Born in Nashville, this musician and founder of the jam band Leftover Salmon moved to Boulder, CO, in 1973 and entered Colorado University after graduating from high school. In 1984, he formed a bluegrass group, the Left Hand String Band, named after a local area in Colorado. In 1990, Emmitt formed Leftover Salmon with Vince Herman, becoming a jam band staple and dynamic live act. The performer, known for an incredibly rapid mandolin playing style, has performed with everyone from Peter Rowan and John Cowan to Neil Young. Drew Emmitt is a mandolinist, guitarist, fiddle player, occasional flutist and singer best known for being one of the founding members of Leftover Salmon, as well as being the frontman of the Left Hand String Band, Drew Emmitt Band, and the Emmitt-Nershi Band.

1989-2005: Leftover Salmon

Emmitt was a part of Leftover Salmon for the sixteen years that they were together, until the band decided to go their separate ways in 2005.

2005-Present: Side projects

At the start of the band's deformation, Emmitt formed the Drew Emmitt Band.

In 2007, Emmitt and Bill Nershi of String Cheese Incident and Honkytonk Homeslice started a project dubbed the Emmitt-Nershi Band. The band toured a small amount in the fall of 2007, and have a wide-scale tour planned for the duration of this year, including stops at festivals such as the High Sierra Music Festival.
