Droopy's Tennis Open

Games: Droopy's Tennis Open

Game Description

Tex Avery's cheerless cartoon dog Droopy stars in his own tennis title featuring four game types, six characters, and support for up to four players. Joining Droopy in the sporting event are the effervescent Bubbles Vavoom, the bruiser Butch, nasty McWolf, Screwy Squirrel, and Droopy's despondent offspring, Dripple. All characters possess varying attributes as they compete in a tournament where the grand prize is having their most cherished dream come true -- from Droopy's secret desire to have his house remodeled to McWolf's lustful longing for a sports car.

Modes of play include Quick Game, Arcade, Tournament, and Multiplayer. Quick Game drops players on a random court with random opponents, while both Arcade and Multiplayer offer players a choice of one set, three sets, or three games against any of the available characters. Tournament is the heart of the title, where players embark on a series of five practice matches before advancing through five singles or doubles matches against each of the remaining characters. Two players can compete head-to-head with a single cartridge, but four-player matches require each participant to have the game.

Each of the game's six venues are inspired by locales from the cartoon series, including the Prison, the Wild West, the North Pole, the Restaurant, the Hanging Court, and the Manor. Courts range from traditional clay and grass surfaces to macadam and even ice. Droopy's Tennis Open also features two disparate styles of play: Classic and Cartoon. "Classic" adheres to tennis rules, while "Cartoon" features character-specific power-ups and attacks, including cages, springs, time bombs, meteorite balls, and more. These power-ups are used to distract or fool an opponent so he or she misses the ball.
