Game Description
Players will engage in real-time battles as commander or grunt in Drop Team from Battlefront.com. The game begins in "The Rim," a speckling of colonies on the outskirts of settled space. "The Rim," once the mecca for free minds looking to escape the tyrannical rule of the "Mu Arae Entente," is now a crumbling ghost world looted by Space Vikings, and is largely uninhabited. This galactic wasteland is where players will set down their virtual armies and go head to head in search for battlefield domination. The game features a ten-mission single-player campaign, but concentrates on multiplayer action through LAN or the Internet. With 20 scenarios and more on the way, players also have the option of creating their own scenarios and uploading them for others. Map sizes range from 100-900 km, and just about everything is written in XML, so generating new or altered vehicles, terrain, and sky is possible. The Drop Team engine reads data from the Geographic Information Systems also used by the Department of Defense. Environment will have an effect on vehicles, so if the planet's surface is icy, a spry vehicle on asphalt may be uncontrollable on a slippery road.
Players can get right down into the fight, gunning down opponents, or stay on the administrative side by dropping engineering vehicles, obstacles, and support vehicles to aid fellow team members. Another option is to play as the team commander by coordinating team action, deploying sensor jammers, mines, and turrets to solidify the team's position. A game will last anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes and the team with the most points from completing objectives at the buzzer wins.
