An antigen-antibody reaction induced by a drug. The drug or one of its products sensitizes its user by combining with a protein in the body to produce an antigen that, in its turn, leads to the formation of antibodies. Subsequent exposure to the drug initiates an antigen-antibody reaction which may manifest itself as anything from a mild skin irritation to a potentially fatal anaphylaxis.
