Du Bois

Food and Nutrition: Eugene Floyd Du Bois

(1882-1959) American physician; coined the term basal metabolic rate (BMR) and established the relationship between BMR and age, sex, and weight. Considered, like Rubner, that BMR was related to body surface area and derived formulae for calculating surface area. (Benedict believed it was related to weight, not surface area.)
