Review

On their third album, Dude Ranch, blink-182 follow in the same path as their first two, turning out 15 tracks of juvenile, adrenaline-fueled punk-pop. Some listeners will find their potty humor ("Dick Lips") somewhat irritating, but the group has written some surprisingly catchy hooks, which might win over skeptics. The songwriting is still a little uneven, but overall, Dude Ranch is an improvement over their first album, Cheshire Cat. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Song information

  • "Enthused" can be found on the band's Buddha Promo as "Strung Out". Another early version of the song can be found on the Wasting Time - 1995 Australian Tour EP
  • "A New Hope" can be found on the band's Buddha Promo as "Princess Leia". The song is a reference to A New Hope, the subtitle of the original Star Wars film, as it contains numerous references to the Star Wars universe such as Han Solo, Lando, and Princess Leia.
  • "Degenerate" is a song written by Tom DeLonge, and was first released, in a slightly different form, in the 1993 release of Demo #2 or 2nd Demo. Then on Buddha, which was released the same year. It describes an alcoholic who keeps getting taken to prison for his actions where he receives the consequences from his prison-mate "Ben Dover".
  • "Boring", "Untitled", and "I'm Sorry" are all followed by brief spoken word skits.
  • "Lemmings" features a reference to the film Pulp Fiction with the line "..feeling that sting of pride, it's fucking with me, it's fucking with you." It is a reference to the Bruce Willis quote in the film, "You feel that sting big boy, huh? That's pride fucking with you. You gotta fight through that shit..."
