Abbey and small village in Co. Offaly, 4 miles N of Tullamore, site of an early monastic centre founded in 551 by Colum Cille [St Columba]. Here was kept the Book of Durrow, an illuminated manuscript of the Gospels, now in the library of Trinity College, Dublin.
