DVD clubs allow users to acquire DVD movies in exchange for ongoing membership. They are similar to music clubs like Columbia House and commercial book clubs like Book of the Month Club.
Most of these clubs use the same tactics as the old Columbia House model where you get a certain number of DVDs extremely inexpensively and then you get shipped a full price DVD each month thereafter. The William Shatner, National Lampoon and Movie of the Month clubs deviate from this model and require an up-front payment. The trade-off is that they send you a film which they select, similar to Book of the Month Club.
