A cosmetic surgical procedure carried out on dogs of certain breeds, including Boxer, Great Dane, Schnauzer, Doberman pinscher and Bouvier des Flandres, that removes approximately one-third of the ear flap and braces the remainder so it stands erect. Practiced widely in the USA, but considered inhumane and an unethical procedure in most of the British Commonwealth countries.
- e. c. clamps — clamps consisting of two aluminum bars with thumbscrews at both ends to screw the bars together, with the part of the ear to be cropped protruding from the edge. They act as a template for cropping the ears of dogs in the correct shape.
