Shareholders of Eastern American Natural Gas Trust know all about the clean-burning, royalty-producing attributes of natural gas. The trust receives royalty interests from 650 producing natural gas wells in West Virginia and Pennsylvania and operated by Eastern American Energy. The trust distributes the royalties to its shareholders quarterly. As a grantor trust, Eastern American Natural Gas Trust does not pay federal income taxes, and the production on some of its wells qualifies for tax credits because the wells are located on hard-to-drill formations. The trust, which in 2008 reported proved reserves of 12.9 billion cu. ft. of natural gas equivalent on its properties, will be liquidated no later than 2013.
