Easytronic is an Opel tradename for a type of transaxle-based transmission or gearbox, as used in some Opel / Vauxhall cars.
In a specific sense, "Easytronic" is not a tiptronic-type gearbox, since it does not use a torque converter, nor a similar gear selector with the P-R-N-D-+/- layout. It is fundamentally a conventional manual transmission, with a single-plate dry clutch. However, the whole clutch and gearbox is electronically controlled, with a computerised electronic control unit (ECU). It therefore operates in virtually the same way as a modern conventional automatic transmission, including the use of tiptronic-like manual selection of the gear ratios by the driver.
The Easytronic is generally used in smaller modern front-wheel drive cars, including the Corsa, Meriva and Astra.
The Easytronic transmission is manufactured for the Adam Opel GmbH by ZF Friedrichshafen AG.[1]
