Ebner-Eschenbach, Marie, Baronin von (märē' bärō'nĭn fən āb'nər-ĕsh'ənbäkh), 1830-1916, Austrian writer. She began writing lyrics and plays with small success, but in middle age achieved fame as a writer of Novellen. Her popular works, in the style of "poetic realism," include the novel Das Gemeindekind (1887, tr. The Child of the Parish, 1893) and Komtesse Muschi (1885, tr. The Two Countesses, 1893).
