Review
Regarding a Hall and Oates album with some trepidation is understandable. Ecstasy on the Edge , however, is an import live album recorded in Denver in 1979. As such, it is a release of classic material from their heyday. The set list culls largely from their late-'70s albums Along the Red Ledge and X-Static, neither of which are their best albums, but were the beginning of the group's rise to superstardom. A better show would have been recorded in, say 1982, and would have drawn from the superior Voices, Private Eyes, and H2O. But, the songs "Sara Smile," "Rich Girl," and "She's Gone" are included. Be forewarned, some of the most popular songs are missing (i.e., "Man Eater" and "One on One"), making this release not the essential live album that is missing in the Hall & Oates catalogue. ~ JT Griffith, All Music GuideTracks
