Biography

Best known as a radio and television announcer, Ed Herlihy also made occasional appearances in films -- usually as an announcer. As a radio actor, Herlihy began working in the 1930s, appearing on such series as "America's Town Meeting," "Mister District Attorney," and "The Falcon." In 1947, he became the announcer for The Kraft Television Theater, and was a spokesman for the popular cheese company for 40 years. He convincingly played a radio commentator in Malcolm X, Zelig, and Radio Days, and appeared in The King of Comedy as "little ol' me, Ed Herlihy," the sidekick of talk show host Jerry Langford (Jerry Lewis). Ed Herlihy (August 14, 1909 – January 30, 1999) was an American newsreel narrator for Universal-International. His voice was heard in countless films on every subject, making him one of the best-known voices in broadcast history. He also was a long-time radio and television announcer for NBC, hosting The Horn and Hardart Children's Hour in the 1940s and 1950, as well as doing Kraft commercials on their various TV series during the 1950s through the early-1980s. He was also Jack Paar's announcer on The Tonight Show.

He died of natural causes in New York City, at age 89.
