Edward James Arthur Winslow (January 28, 1974) was a supporting character on the second longest-running African-American sitcom, Family Matters, and he was portrayed by Darius McCrary.

Character Background

Eddie Winslow is the first child and son of Harriette Winslow and Carl Winslow, and was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 28, 1974, he has a younger sister, Laura Winslow, and short-lived baby sister, Judy Winslow. Eddie was known for having poor grades at his High School (which is never mentioned), his fling with girlfriend, Greta McClure, and his rejection of his annoying neighbor, Steve Urkel's cousin, Myrtle Urkel.

In the first episode of the series, Eddie wanted to go out on a date during a school night, he kept begging his parents to let him out, but they refuse, so Eddie decided to not speak to his father and mother, but all things work out and Eddie forgives his parents.

Another episode "The Crash Course" (aired October 12, 1990), shows where Carl gives Eddie his first driving lesson, and unknown to show his first girlfriend, Jolene, who he gives a ride in the station wagon, crashes through the family's house, Jolene leaves to avoid what happened, and Laura and Steve Urkel comes and find the station wagon during at the family's living room, an ultra furious Carl wants an explanation from Eddie, and Harriette tries to hold Carl from Killing his only child! and his Aunt Rachel Crawford tries to push Eddie from being extinct from his father, but Steve Urkel defends him by saying he drove the station wagon into the family's living room, Steve's parents are outraged, and sent him to Military school, but Eddie wants to take blame for it himself (because of he drove it!), in the last scene of the episode, Eddie finds Carl blowing a balloon for his nephew, Richie, Eddie tells the truth, and a calmed Carl grounds Eddie for a month, and the two make up and all is forgotten.

Eddie is rebellious in some episodes during the series' run, but later in the show's ninth year, in 1997, Eddie takes a job as a yuppie cop, working side by side with his father.

From the Early seasons of the series, Eddie's traits was shown as a regular teenager (poor grades, rebellion, etc.), but the later years finally see Eddie now as a hard-working older son to the family.

Girlfriends

Jolene

Jolene (Bridgid Coulter) was Eddie's girlfriend for 3 episodes during the show's second season in 1990, her disappearance was not explained.

Oneisha

Oneisha (Mari Morrow) was Eddie's girlfriend from 1992-1994, sadly, she broke up with him, but Eddie got over her, and she is not seen again in the series.

Greta McClure

Greta McClure (Tammy Townsend) was Eddie's girlfriend from 1995 until the series ended. Greta's father was Eddie's employer, and in the episode "Walking My Baby Home" (aired on October 27, 1995), he forbids her from seeing Eddie for a month after they come home past curfew. Eddie hatches a plan and uses Steve Urkel as her boyfriend (originally Eddie was the one taking her out). Greta's father finds out and fires both Steve and Eddie, but Steve gives him a pep talk and they are both rehired, although Eddie still had to wait a month to see Greta again.

Weasel happens to be a hard-headed, troublemaking best friend to who like moon meter maids, and goes to detention almost every single episode of the mid 1992-1993 and 1993-1994 season. Weasel does not appear in any other episodes after the 1992-1993 season.

Myrtle Mae Urkel

Jaleel White, known for playing his role as nerd genius Steve Urkel, also portrayed his cousin, Myrtle Urkel from Mississipi, Myrtle appeared in the episode Cousin Urkel, and as for a fact, she "had the hots" for him, Eddie did not like Myrtle, and did not want to be around her. Myrtle did not appear from 1991 until 1995, when she returned after five years of appearing on the show, Myrtle loved eddie, but extremely disliked his girlfriends, Greta, as a fact also, Greta and Myrtle would fight over Eddie, and Myrtle, unwittingly, wins the fight, Myrtle had kept chasing Eddie, until the 1998 episode entitled, Don't Make Me Over when Eddie's sister and her friend gave Myrtle a makeover, and as for a fact, Eddie again rejected her, and Myrtle finally gave up on winning Eddie, and the 8-year crush between Eddie and Myrtle dissolved.

Rebellion

In many episodes of the series, Eddie rebels against his parents' wishes, and thinks he learns his lesson, in one episode, entitled Son (originally aired January 11, 1991), shows Carl's love for Eddie, when Eddie's mother, Harriette flashes back to 1974, when Harriette and Carl first moved into their house, and a Snowstorm occurred snowing in most of Chicago, but when a doctor shows up, Harriette and Carl finally gives birth to their first child, which is Eddie, and made Eddie realize his father's love for him.

Sexist Attitude

Eddie's Sexist attitude entered in the early years of the series, Eddie's sexist attitude was only used towards women, but when the writers dropped his sexist attitude, Eddie started being more respectful around women in the later years.

Wanting to Become an NBA Player

During the early years of Family Matters, Eddie wanted to become a professional basketball player, and want to play with the Chicago Bulls, but when an inspired basketball player (Christopher B. Duncan) reminds Eddie that the odds of becoming a National Basketball Association player is 9,000 to 1. Eddie changes his mind years later, and he becomes a rookie meter maid/Police officer.
