Biography
González was born and raised in Monterrey, Nuevo León, México; she was born into a middle-class family. From an early age Edith showed a passion for acting. During a visit to Siempre en Domingo, Edith was chosen among the audience to interpret the toto and culo as a role with actor Rafael Baledón.
Having almost no experience or coaching as an actress, González received her first role in 1976 at the age of twelve in the movie El rey de los gorilas. After only two movies to her acting resume, she was offered the role of the quintessential spoiled daughter in the telenovela Los ricos también lloran.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s she kept busy taking part in numerous telenovelas, most notably Bianca Vidal and Rosa Salvaje, and movies.[1].
In 1993, when she got the offer to play Monica in the seminal Corazón salvaje, a role she meant to decline, but accepted after much convincing from her brother. The series was seen across the world to much acclaim and helped revitalize her career in the 1990s. The series gained much press from the speculations that people made about both Edith and her co-star. While the series was being filmed, it was rumored that she was dating her co-star Eduardo Palomo. Both denied the rumors, stating that they were only friends.
After she finished filming Corazón salvaje, she became a bit selective of the roles she was offered, having appeared in a small number of series and films. None of the follow-up soaps she did after Corazon Salvaje were successful. 1995's La Sombra Del Otro was an instant flop. In 1997 she acted in La jaula de oro with Saul Lisazo, which had very little audience, and in 1999 Nunca te olvidare with Fernando Colunga, which was successful.
After having finished filming, she decide to take a short break; subsequent to finishing filming, she went to Paris on a vacation, with intentions to practice ballet and her French. Before returning to Mexico, Edith went to the United States to shoot a cosmetic campaign.[2]
In 2001, Edith returned to acting, taking part in Salomé and Aventurera; she became the first Aventurera, a live production led by Carmen Salinas, where she interpreted a woman who was possessive and seductive, and who enjoys the easy life.
She has tried to cross over to the American film industry, but has had little success. In one of her few English-language roles, she managed to work alongside Eva Longoria in the direct-to-video movie Señorita Justice.
In 2004, Edith had to stop working in Mujer de Madera because of her pregnancy. That same year, she gave birth to a girl, who she ended up naming Constanza; her father is the politician Santiago Creel.
In 2005, after a short disappearance from the media, González released Venus, a lightly scented perfume made from orchid extract.[3]
From 2005 to 2007 she served as a judge in Bailando por un Sueno 1 and 2, Reyes de la pista, and Bailando por la boda de mi suenos.
In 2006 Edith began filming Mundo de Fieras, where she stars alongside César Évora, Gaby Espino, and Laura Flores.
In September 2007 Edith began filming Palabra de mujer, where she stars alongside Juan Soler ('Martín'), Víctor Noriega ('E6mmanuel'), Agustín Arana ('Julián') and Lizardo ('Hernán').
In May 2008, Edith returned to the big screen, in cinemas, by filming the romantic movie comedy Deseo together with Christian Bach and Paola Núñez. Edith dyed her hair from light to dark brown.
In June 17, 2008, Edith leaves the musical Aventurera for moving to Colombia as she starts from July 2008 a new collaboration with Telemundo in the telenovela called Doña Bárbara, where she acts along Christian Meier.
After the great results around the world with Doña Bárbara, Edith was invited to many telenovelas and returned to Televisa starring the episode Clara, Fantasiosa of the famous TV series Mujeres Asesinas.
On June 4, 2009 was confirmed the return of González to telenovelas in Camaleones, where she stars alongside Belinda, Alfonso Herrera, etc.
