Odaline de la Martinez

(b Matanzas, Cuba, 31 Oct 1949). American conductor and composer. She studied with Patterson at the RAM and later settled in London. In 1976 she founded Lontano and is their music director; she also directs the European Women's Orchestra and the London Chamber Symphony and has toured throughout the world. She formed a record company, Lorelt, in 1992, which concentrates on areas neglected by other companies, notably women composers. Her compositional style is eclectic: her first opera Sister Aimee (1973-83) uses a variety of styles and techniques, including gospel music and aleatory procedures.
