Biography

Little is known about the life and times of art director/set designer Edward Carfagno before he signed up with MGM in 1943. During his long career with that studio, Carfagno won Oscars for his work on The Bad and the Beautiful (1952), Julius Caesar (1953), and Ben-Hur (1959). Like any true professional, Carfagno has always gone where the work is, be it a blockbuster theatrical feature or a made-for-TV miniseries like Beulah Land (1980). After working on Clint Eastwood's Sudden Impact (1983), Edward Carfagno went on to design the sets for Eastwood's Tightrope (1984), City Heat (1984), Pale Rider (1985), Heartbreak Ridge (1986), Bird (1988), The Dead Pool (1988), and Pink Cadillac (1989). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
