Edward Scofield

Edward Scofield (March 28, 1842 – February 3, 1925) was an American politician who served as the 19th governor of Wisconsin.[1]

Biography

Scofield was born in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. He fought in the American Civil War as a member of the 11th Pennsylvania Reserves and eventually rose to the rank of major. He moved to Oconto, Wisconsin, in 1867. Scofield entered politics when he was elected to the Wisconsin State Senate in 1886. He was elected governor of the state in 1896 and served two terms. He died in his home in Oconto at age 83.

Scofield was the last of several Civil War veterans to serve as Governor of Wisconsin.
