Evergreen Energy wants to fuel the advancement of efficient, environmentally friendly power generation. The company has patented a process, known as K-Fuel, that uses heat and pressure to transform low-energy value coal and other feedstocks into high-energy fuel for power plants. After low-grade coal has been through the K-Fuel process, it can be used without causing power plants to violate pollution standards. Its Buckeye Industrial Mining subsidiary operates a coal mining complex in Ohio and provides Evergreen Energy with the bulk of its sales. Evergreen's C-Lock process, which it calls GreenCert, is a web-based platform that tracks carbon emissions to be used to quantify carbon emission reduction credits.
