Biography

Based in Memphis and named after one of its roads, hard rock group Egypt Central were formed by lead singer John T. Falls in 2001. After being signed to LAVA Records in 2006, the band entered the studio to begin work on its debut album. However, downsizing at the label led to the band being dropped before the album could be fully completed. Despite this, one of the tracks, "Over and Under," came to the attention of the WWE and was subsequently used in the film The Condemned. Regional radio airplay further bolstered the group's popularity, and Egypt Central eventually earned spots at Ozzfest and the Family Values Tour. Signing with indie label Fat Lady Music in 2007, the band returned to the studio to put the finishing touches on its album. The self-titled debut was scheduled for release in 2008. ~ Katherine Fulton, All Music Guide

History

On October 2nd, 2002, a group of young musicians came together to form the band Egypt Central. For one year, nothing was happening for the band. These young men, still determined , dilligently wrote and recorded until they generated a buzz in their hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. After eight shows, the band caught the attention of former Lava Records CEO Jason Flom. Impressed with their demo, he immediately offered the band a record deal after seeing their live performance. Their debut album was recorded with renowned producer Josh Abraham in Los Angeles.

Due to overwhelming demand, the band self-released their Lava-recorded album online through independent retailer CD Baby, and at selected music stores throughout Memphis. Their CD debuted at #1 for independent releases in Memphis – going on to sell nearly 7,000 copies within a few months.

On April 1, 2006, the band signed a deal with independent label, Bieler Bros. Records, with the intention of releasing the band's Lava album. However, in late July, it was announced that the band had parted ways with the label. No reason was given, but the band stated that "it was a simple decision made in the best interest of both parties". The album was set for release on August 22.

Egypt Central's song Taking You Down was selected to be on the soundtrack for the movie The Cave.

The song "Over and Under" was selected to be on the soundtrack and in the movie The Condemned.

In the summer of 2007, Egypt Central played several dates with Ozzfest. They performed on the Second Stage. They also played several dates with the Family Values Tour, were they opened the main stage.

Bubba The Love Sponge had them on his "Unsigned Band Review" mistakenly calling them "Egyptian Central". He also gave the band the best review of any band on the "Unsigned Band Review" he is also part of the credit to their success, and he believes he is the reason they got on Ozzfest.

On October 5, 2007, Egypt Central officially signed a record deal with Fat Lady Music/ILG distributed by ADA. The original CD has been remixed and remastered with new artwork and was released to retailers nationwide on January 15, 2008 featuring their new single "You Make Me Sick". The entire recording is now available on iTunes and in record stores everywhere.

The band has added a group of new songs to their live shows. All songs are expected to be included on the band's second album, which is currently being recorded.

The songs "You Make Me Sick" and "Taking You Down" are on the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 soundtrack.
