Dictionary of Dance:

Eight Jelly Rolls

Modern dance work in one act with choreography by Tharp, music by Jelly Roll Morton and The Red Hot Peppers, design by Kermit Love, and lighting by Tipton. Premiered 22 Jan. 1971 at Oberlin College, Ohio, with Tharp, Rudner, R. M. Wright, I. GarcĂ­a Lorca, D. Reitz, and others. This was Tharp's first major work to be choreographed to music, also marking her shift from austere minimalism to popular dance. A revised version was performed in New York, Sept. 1971.
