Eizo Nanao Corporation (株式会社ナナオ Kabushiki-gaisha Nanao?) (TYO: 6737), or EIZO, is a manufacturer of computer displays. A Japanese corporation, it was founded in March 1968 but did not adopt its current name until 1999 when Nanao Corporation and Eizo merged. It has its headquarters in Hakusan, Ishikawa Prefecture.[3]

The name Eizo is a reference to the Japanese word meaning "image", 映像, eizō in romaji.

History

The company founded was Hakui Electronic Corporation in Hakui, Ishikawa, Japan in 1968 and initially manufactured televisions. In March 1978 it became Nanao Corporation. In 1976 it began manufacture of industrial monitors and in 1981 started making PC monitors.

Eizo was launched as a brand for Europe in 1985 after the company had founded Hitec Associates Ltd. as a sales subsidiary for the European market, and the company in the same period founded offices in the US to launch products the Nanao brand.

In January 1990 Hitec Associates Ltd was renamed Eizo Corporation. Nine years later the company merged Nanao Corporation and Eizo Corporation to form the current company[4].
