Literally, ‘black war leader’. This Maya deity, represented with a black-rimmed eye, was fierce and violent. He also concerned himself with those who had died in battle. A friendly aspect, however, was his patronage of merchants, since he sometimes appeared carrying a bundle of merchandise on his back like an itinerant salesman.
