El Tigre is a city in the eastern Venezuelan state of Anzoátegui. This city is the shire town of the Simón Rodríguez Municipality and, according to the 2001 Venezuelan census, the municipality has a population of 147,800.[1]

El Tigre was founded on February 3, 1923. The city started when oil companies found oil in El Tigre and established their offices in Campo Oficina.

The Simón Rodríguez Municipality, according to the 2001 Venezuelan census, has a population of 147,800 (up from 94,409 in 1990). This amounts to 12.1% of Anzoátegui's population.[1]

Government

El Tigre is the shire town of the Simón Rodríguez Municipality in Anzoátegui. The mayor of the Simón Rodríguez Municipality is Carlos Hernandez, elected in 2008 with 50.6% of the vote.[2] He replaced Ernesto Paraqueima Luiggi shortly after the last municipal elections in November 2008.[3]
